Final Project
Artist Statement:
I have a very strong passion for cars. I’m grateful that I got the opportunity to create a series to show correlation between individuals and their cars. My goal was to express how our personalities are shown through the objects we buy or the hobbies we enjoy. Cars are very important to me, my family, and most of my friends so my experiment would have been skewed in one direction. To counter this, I included individuals I do not know too well, like neighbors and co-workers. Surprisingly, my experiment showed true in these individuals as well. Each personality is greatly reflected by the individuals car. The way in which an individual stood, the clothes they wore, and the expression on their face resonates well in the build, color, or year of the car they own.

I drew inspiration from Danny Clinch. He is a famous photographer known for photographing celebrities. A few of his photos included the celebrities car in the photo. The viewer can instantly tell that the car belongs to the celebrity because of the personality the celeb and the car shares.

I believe the series fits well into the contemporary art world because due to the fact that it is showing art in a psychological term. I show how personality is reflected in the objects we own and how we express ourselves through our possessions. Our society is obsessed with materialism and I personally believe this is due to humans being able to express their personality through physical object. This project was very enjoyable to me because I was able to photograph my passion as well as interact with many friends and family members.
